Agriculture in the Classroom

Jennifer L. Garrison

The California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering a greater public knowledge of the agricultural industry through classroom incorporation of agricultural information. The Foundation seeks to enlighten students and educators about agriculture's vital yet sometimes forgotten role in American society and the effect all citizens have on agriculture's well-being.

The Foundation is currently supporting distribution of Farm and Food Bytes computer programs. These innovative education materials integrate agriculture and conservation topics with the exciting world of computers. Three programs make up the complete set: Introduction to Agriculture, Animal Agriculture, and Soil and Water Conservation. All utilize mathematics, language arts, social studies and science to present interesting games and lessons.

The goal of the Foundation is to place Farm and Food Bytes programs in elementary and middle schools throughout California. Funds to purchase the programs will be provided by industries, organizations, and individuals involved with agriculture and education.
