Project Learning Tree

Kay Antunez

Project Learning Tree (PLT) was developed through a joint effort of the American Forest Foundation (AFF), an association of wood products industries, and the Western Region Environmental Council (WREEC), an organization of representatives of state departments of education and natural resource agencies in 13 western states. The materials were written by classroom teachers and other educators, resource agency personnel and representatives of private conservation groups and forest companies. Their goal was to provide environmental education and resource conservation teaching materials which present a balance of perspectives about conserving and managing resources.

In California, in addition to AFF and WREEC, PLT is sponsored by the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection with support from the State Department of Education. Within the local PLT networks, various agencies, associations, school districts, museums, parks and companies provide assistance with the PLT program.
