The Nonpoint Source Bulletin Board System and the Watershed Management Council are hosting a national registry for watershed project coordinators, managers, engineers, hydrologists, chemists, and biologists as well as educators, planners and administrators. The registry's purpose is to provide watershed workers with information about what other watershed teams are working on. You'll find it on the EPA Nonpoint Source Electronic Bulletin Board System. We hope you'll use it to share technological, educational, legislative and financial problems and solutions.
We invite you to join with us in this experiment in collegiality. Registry in the directory is completely voluntary. The form you fill out sends pertinent information about your project and your area of interest into a database that is available for searches online.
The Registry is not a listing of watershed projects. Rather, it is a guide to who's doing what in watershed protection and restoration. We hope it will be the first of many contacts you make with other watershed teams. We encourage you to use the message function of the BBS to communicate with other Watershed Registry participants, but phone numbers and addresses are part of each entry so you can make contact the old-fashioned way too.
Registration is done online through the Watershed Registry in Door 1. The Watershed Registry Searchable Database is Door 2. Both are in the WMC's "Watershed Restoration Network" Forum on the BBS. To get to the bulletin board, set your communications software to 8-N-1 and dial (301) 589-0205. Once you're on the main BBS, type `J' to see choices for the Forums. Chose `5' for our Forum. To get into the Registry from here, type `OPEN 1'. To get to the searchable database, type `OPEN 2'. Simple. Online registration is ALWAYS available. Incidentally, those of you with Internet access can now gateway to the NPS BBS through FedWorld, by telnetting to 192.239.92.201.
We welcome questions or comments about the Registry; leave messages concerning the Registry on the BBS, to Elaine Bloom or Mike Furniss.
