Highlights of the July 26, 1996
WMC Board of Directors meeting

The July Board meeting was held on the U.C. Davis campus. The meeting focused on 3 areas: the 1996 Conference, the WMC Newsletter (now called the "WMC Networker"), and the upcoming Board elections.

The agenda was finalized for the 1996 Conference. Copies of the agenda are included as an insert in this issue of the Networker. Presenters are a diverse group of specialists, researchers and implementers presenting information on a wide variety of topics relevant to current issues in the watershed arena. Times awastin', please get your registrations in.

The WMC Networker has expanded from 4 pages several years ago to 16-20 pages recently. We'd like to get it out more frequently, but need more contributions from the membership. A greater diversity of people arranging contributions will result in more diverse and representative content. To meet a quarterly newsletter schedule, the Board decided to provide editorial assistance to Mike and to develop themes for the next 5 newsletters. The following themes and volunteer co-editors are on deck:

DateThemeResponsible Board Member
Dec. 1, 1996Community-Based WatershedsWendell Gilgert
Mar. 1, 1997Sierra Nevada Ecosystem ProjectRick Kattelmann
Jun. 1, 1997Landscape EcologyRichard Harris & Karen Gafney
Sep. 1, 1997Problems with Institutional MonitoringChris Knopp, Rick Kattelmann & Jim Bergman
Dec. 1, 1997Salmon IssuesWendell Gilgert & Karen Gafney

The Networker needs input from membership throughout the geographic and disciplinary areas covered by the WMC. This is a call for copy. Please consider sharing what you are doing with us. Cross-pollinating, communicating, and exchanging what we've learned is what the WMC is about. Why not queue up a contribution in your planner right now? Additional ideas for themes and volunteer guest editors are also most welcome.

Board member elections are coming up in the next couple of months. Board seats up for re-election are the Secretary, Treasurer, President-Elect and Members-at-Large. We need more nominations for candidates. For those interested in these positions, please send a short biographical sketch to University of California, Centers for Water and Wildland Resources, Office of the Director, 1323 Academic Surge, Davis, California, 95616-8750, Attention: Gina Ferrell.
