Mark your calendar now for this year's educational field tour. We will meet in Reno the evening of Wednesday, October 6th, then leave early on Thursday, October 7th for a bus tour from Reno, up the watershed through Truckee, California to Lake Tahoe. We will learn about water quality and restoration efforts plus the bi-state Truckee River Operating Agreement (TROA) that is being negotiated to codify water allocation and endangered species concerns. On Friday, October 8th, we will travel downstream from Reno to the Truckee River's terminal lake. Pyramid Lake is owned by the Paiute Tribe. It is a unique desert lake that is about the same size as Lake Tahoe. On this day we will learn about riparian habitat restoration efforts, noxious weed control, the large diversion dam which transfers water to the Carson River's Newlands irrigation project, and efforts to save the river's threatened and endangered fish species. Watch for more details and for registration information in our next issue.
